- Hope learned the basics of covering politics as a radio reporter in Taiwan. She then moved to Hong Kong, transitioned into TV and worked as a field producer, segment producer, and show producer at NBC Asia, CNN, and Bloomberg TV.
- Whenever she took breaks from news, Hope indulged in her love of cooking by ghost writing and editing several cookbooks. She also spent a year writing and editing sections of Hong Kong's Home Journal magazine.
- Parenting turned Hope into an armchair expert of everything-her-children-were-into, and that encompassed both early and primary school education, and youth sports.
Experience
Hope is a composite of her eclectic media background. Her interest in politics led to an understanding of how to cover legislative procedures in the Philippines and Taiwan. It also led her to roles as field producer and show producer for NBC Asia and CNN. Her last stint in TV news was for Bloomberg Television, where she worked as a segment producer. Throughout her media career, Hope has witnessed or covered elections, coup attempts, and natural disasters -- which is why she is always grateful to escape to food writing when things get to be too much.
Education
A masters degree helped Hope go beyond the short form style required in television, and venture into longer, more substantive writing. It also taught her more careful; after all, one can’t haggle with Turnitin.
